Roof painters in Auckland

Roof painting can refresh a faded colour and help protect roofing that is still in sound condition. We check the surface, existing coating and access before working out the preparation and paint needed.

Leaks, holes or badly deteriorated roofing may need repairs first. We’ll discuss anything that affects whether the roof is suitable for a repaint.

Is your roof ready for painting?

A faded finish, flaking paint and corrosion each need a closer look. The condition of the roof determines what preparation is worthwhile and whether repair work needs to happen first.

Faded or worn paint

If the roofing and remaining coating are sound, a repaint may be an option. We check the surface before recommending how to clean, prepare and recoat it.

Flaking paint or surface rust

Loose coatings and corroded areas need preparation suited to the roof material. On metal roofing, we assess the extent of rust before proposing treatment and priming.

Leaks or damaged roofing

Holes, failed flashings and badly weakened metal need roofing assessment and repair. These issues should be dealt with before a paint coating is applied.

Tell us the roof material and any previous coatings you know about. That helps us understand the surface and select suitable paint.

Cleaning and preparation before roof painting

Fresh paint needs a sound surface to bond to. Washing alone won’t deal with every loose edge or corroded patch, so we allow for the preparation the roof actually needs.

Clean the roof surface
Remove dirt, chalking and surface growth using preparation suited to the roofing material and its condition. The roof needs time to dry before coating.
Deal with loose paint and corrosion
Prepare failing paint and affected metal as required by the coating specification. The amount of work depends on what remains sound beneath the old finish.
Prime the areas that need it
Bare or treated areas may need a compatible primer. We select the preparation and finishing coats together so the proposed system suits the roof.

Roofing repairs and any additional preparation outside the agreed quote are discussed separately before that work goes ahead.

Plan the repaint around the roof

The pitch of the roof, the height of the house and how we reach the work all affect the plan. Let us know about solar panels, roof-mounted equipment or rainwater collection when you enquire.

  1. Confirm the work and access

Confirm the roof material, condition, painted area and colour. We discuss access, nearby surfaces and what the quote includes before work starts.

  2. Prepare the surface

Set up the agreed access and protect nearby areas, then complete the planned cleaning and coating preparation. Any repairs needed first are addressed or discussed.

  3. Apply the specified coatings

Prime where required and apply the selected roof paint in suitable conditions. The product’s instructions determine application and drying time between coats.

  4. Check the finish and talk through care

Review the coated areas and tidy the work area. We explain the care and maintenance advice for the paint used, so you know what to watch for afterwards.

How much does roof painting cost in Auckland?

Roof painting costs depend on the roof area, pitch, existing condition, access and the coating work included. The floor area of the house alone isn’t enough to price the repaint.

A roof with sound existing paint needs different preparation from one with widespread flaking or corrosion. Repairs, equipment and anything outside the painting scope should be clear in the quote.

When you compare quotes, check the preparation, painted surfaces, access costs and GST. Those details tell you whether you’re comparing the same work.

What affects the price?

Roof area and shape
The actual surface being coated, its pitch and the number of edges, ridges and detailed areas.
Surface preparation
The cleaning, loose-paint removal, corrosion preparation and priming required.
Height and access
The equipment and working arrangements needed to reach the roof and protect nearby areas.
Coatings and related work
The chosen primer and finishing coats, plus any separately identified repairs or other surfaces to be painted.

Questions before you book

If there’s something specific about your roof, call us and talk it through.

Can a rusty metal roof be painted?

Surface rust may be treatable as part of a suitable repaint, provided the metal remains sound. Deep corrosion or holes can require roofing repairs or replacement. We assess suitability before proposing the preparation and coating work.

Will roof painting fix a leak?

A leak needs its cause identified and repaired. Paint is not a repair for holes, failed flashings or other roofing defects. Any repair work needed should be dealt with before the repaint proceeds.

Which roof materials can be repainted?

Suitability depends on the material, the existing coating and the roof’s condition. Tell us what your roof is made of when enquiring. Metal and tile surfaces require different assessment and coating choices, and we confirm whether the work is suitable before quoting.

How many coats of roof paint will be needed?

The roof material, surface condition and selected product determine the coating specification. Priming and finishing coats have different purposes. Your quote should identify the proposed work, with application following the chosen product’s requirements.

How long does a roof repaint take?

The roof area, access and preparation determine the amount of work. Weather and drying time also affect the schedule. We discuss the expected timeframe after assessing the roof, and any dates you need us to plan around.

What happens if rain is forecast?

The conditions need to suit the paint during application and drying. Rain, damp surfaces or unsuitable conditions can delay coating work. We plan around those requirements and discuss changes to the schedule with you.

How long will the new roof coating last?

Preparation, the roof’s condition, the coating used and exposure all affect how the finish wears. Maintenance matters too. We can discuss the chosen product’s care advice; any warranty being offered should be stated with its terms.

Can you quote the roof and house exterior together?

Yes. Tell us if you want both painted so each part of the work is identified in the quote. Walls, joinery, fascia and the roof can have different preparation and coating requirements. See our exterior painting service.
